Résumé

The aim of this paper is to provide an account of the Take serial verb construction through a detailed analysis of the properties of verbs that may participate in this construction. My proposal is that serial verbs are derived complex predicates which are formed prior to D-Structure by means of operations on the Lexical Conceptual Structure (LCS) of verbs. More precisely, serialization consists in the association of the LCSs of two verbs yielding a derived Lexical Conceptual Structure. The paper presents an overview of the properties of the Take serial construction of Fongbe. It is shown that previous analyses proposed to account for the serial verb construction cannot account for the lexical and syntactic properties of the Take serial verb construction under analysis.
