Résumé
This paper argues that participle agreement in French is not an instantiation of agreement under predication. The idea that past participle agreement operates from the trace of the NP it governs and that past participle agreement phenomena are related to Case in several ways is explored. Predictions of this proposal and some of its consequences are discussed.
